Borrowed from Middle Persian 𐫖𐫏𐫗𐫇𐫃 (mynwg /⁠mēnōg⁠/, heaven, paradise; *emerald; *glass) (whence Classical Persian مینو (mīnō) of the same meaning), from Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬌𐬥𐬌𐬌𐬎 (mainiiu, spirit).
