Semi-learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܚܠܦ ܫܡܐ (ḥəlāp̄ šəmā), equivalent to a compound of ܚܠܵܦ (ḥlāp, instead of, in place of) +‎ ܫܸܡܵܐ (šimmā, noun).
