From Aramaic נַמְטָא (namṭā), from Middle Persian [script needed] (nmt' /⁠namad⁠/, felt, fibers), from Proto-Iranian *namatā- (cloth made of hairs); also borrowed into Arabic نَمَط (namaṭ, drugget).
