Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit *𑀅𑀤𑁆𑀥𑀯𑁂𑀟 (*addhaveḍa), from Sanskrit अर्ध (ardha, half) +‎ *वेड (veḍa) with the second term possibly related to वेला (velā, time, occasion). Cognate with Punjabi ਅਧੇੜ (adheṛ), Gujarati આધેડ (ādheḍ).
