From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ǰarHtā́ (praiser, eulogizer), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷérH-tōr ~ *gʷr̥H-tr-és (praiser), from *gʷerH- (to praise). Cognate with Avestan 𐬀𐬌𐬠𐬍-𐬘𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬀𐬭 (aibī-jarətar), 𐬀𐬌𐬠𐬌-𐬘𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬙𐬀𐬭 (aibi-jarətar, praiser; one who welcomes).
