Inherited from Prakrit *𑀢𑀕𑁆𑀕 (*tagga) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀟- (-ḍa-) + -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit *तर्ग (targa, “frightening; terrible; strong”), from the root तर्ज् (tarj, “to threaten; scold; frighten”).[1]
