Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *dʰāráyati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dʰāráyati, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰor-éyeti. Causative of धरति (dhárati, “to hold, support, seize”), itself from √धृ (dhṛ, “to hold back, stop, restrain”).
