Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀯𑀻𑀟𑀺𑀆 (vīḍiā), from Sanskrit वीटिका (vīṭikā, roll of betel leaf), from वीटा (vīṭā, betel), of substrate origin. Doublet of বোঁটা (bō̃ṭa, flower or leaf stalk) and বাঁট (bãṭ, nipple, teat; handle).
