From Portuguese sabão, itself from Old Galician-Portuguese sabon, sabõ, from Latin sāpōnem, accusative singular of sāpō, from Proto-Germanic *saipǭ, from Proto-Indo-European *seyb- (to pour out, drip, trickle, strain).
