Etymology[edit]
From ชั่ว (chûua, “for; throughout”) + กัป (gàp, “kalpa”, a period of time in Hindu belief, from the creation of the world by the god Brahma to the destruction of the world by a divine fire) + ชั่ว (chûua, “for; throughout”) + กัลป์ (“kalpa”); literally "for a kalpa, for a kalpa".
