Etymology

From Old Khmer pēta pēna (to annoy, to bother, to trouble; to menace, to threaten; etc), from pēta, piata (to press; to oppress) + pēna, piana (to abuse; to maltreat; to mistreat), equivalent to Thai เบียด (bìiat) +‎ เบียน (biian). Cognate with Modern Khmer បៀតបៀន (biətbiən).
