Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian აბანოჲ (abanoy), from Proto-Georgian-Zan *ban- (whence also ბანაობს (banaobs), ბანა (bana) and their derivatives). Cognate with Mingrelian ბონუა (bonua, to wash oneself), აბანა (abana) and Laz ობონუ (obonu, to wash oneself).
