Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian კვნესა (ḳvnesa), from a metathesized form of *ḳus-en-, from Proto-Kartvelian *ḳwes-, *ḳus- (to moan). Compare also Mingrelian კუსაფა (ḳusapa), Laz ოკუსუ (oǩusu) and Svan ლიკვეც (liḳvec).
