  1. third-person singular imperfect mediopassive indicative of ἀνύω (anúō)
    • 800 BCE – 600 BCE, Homer, Odyssey 5.243:
      θοῶς δέ οἱ ἤνυτο ἔργον.
      thoôs dé hoi ḗnuto érgon.
      And quickly was his work accomplished.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Some scholars prefer a reading ἤνετο, interpreted as belonging with ἄνω (ánō, accomplish, finish).[1]
