Etymology

[edit]

Altered form of Proto-Germanic *sehtรด (whence Old Norse sรฉtti and Old High German sehto) with the *s inserted by analogy with ๐ƒ๐Œฐ๐Œน๐Œท๐ƒ (saihs, โ€œsixโ€). Identical in formation to Old English sixta and Old High German sehsto, and close to Koine Greek แผ•ฮบฯ„ฮฟฯ‚ (hรฉktos), which it translates.
