Etymology

Derived from Proto-Turkic *köŕ (eye), equivalent to 𐰚𐰇𐰔𐰤 (közün-, to be seen, to be visible) +‎ 𐰏𐰇 (-gü). Cognate with Azerbaijani güzgü (mirror), Uzbek koʻzgu, Bashkir көҙгө (köźgö, mirror).
