Spanish[edit]
Alternative forms[edit]
- -cecilla (after feminine nouns)
Etymology[edit]
Extended form of -ecillo, using the same formative -c- found in -cillo, -cito.
Suffix[edit]
-cecillo m (noun-forming suffix, plural -cecillos)
- Alternative form of -ecillo; added to masculine nouns to form diminutives
- pie (“foot”) + -cecillo → piececillo (“little foot”)
Usage notes[edit]
- A rare suffix added to masculine words and names to denote a diminutive form. It occurs especially with words ending in a consonant or a vowel other than -o, and does not delete the final vowel (contrast with -ecillo, which is added in place of a vowel that does get deleted).
