Etymology[edit]

Unclear, with respect to the already at least early medieval age of the word, either reflecting Proto-Germanic *heupǭ (rose-hip) or with unorganic onset *abjǭ (declivity?).

Einfahrt in den historischen Ortskern von Heepen aus Baumheide

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈheːpən], [ˈheːpm̩]

Proper noun[edit]

Heepen n (proper noun, genitive Heepens or (optionally with an article) Heepen)

  1. A neighbourhood of Heepen district, Bielefeld, former municipality in Bielefeld district, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany

Usage notes[edit]

In the general register it virtually always means the area of the former municipality, though it has only cultural but not formal administrative significance anymore, rather than the city district named after it due to the thereunto municipality being the namesake of the preceding municipality administration collective Amt Heepen.
