Etymology[edit]
Surface derivation from *sauzaz (“dry”) + *-janą. May be formally cognate with Proto-Slavic *sušiti (“to make dry”) (Proto-Balto-Slavic *sáušīˀtei) and Sanskrit शोषयति (śoṣáyati, “to parch, make dry, cause to wither, sear”).
