Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Indo-European *deyn-, *dyew- (“day”). Cognate with Lithuanian dienà (“day”), Latin diēs (“day”), Sanskrit दिन (diná, “day”). Related to Proto-Germanic *Tīwaz, from Proto-Indo-European *deywós (“god”).
