Proto-Indo-Iranian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Possibly from Proto-Indo-European *ned-íh₂, from *ned- (“thundering, roaring, rushing”) + *-íh₂. Lubotsky connects it to Ancient Greek Νέδα (Néda, name of a river), Middle Low German Nette (name of a river).
