Etymology[edit]

Unknown. Sometimes compared with *viljati or vyti. Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *h₂weh₁- (to blow (of wind)).

  1. (South Slavic) A kind of female nature spirit with supernatural powers, similar to a nymph or a fairy.
