Etymology[edit]

Certain sources attempt to link Vietnamese bán with (MC pjonH) (SV: phiến). However, the final palatal nasal in Muong Bi paỉnh, Kri paañq, and the Pong lects indicate otherwise.

After *aː, Thavung and Cuối lects had *-ɲ > /n/ therefore the reflexes shown below are regular. Rục and Arem show irregular /-n/ (instead of simply preserving *-ɲ).
