Proto-Yoruboid[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The consonant /k/ is very present in almost every basic Yoruboid root for male, see Proto-Yoruboid *ɔ́-kʊ̃rɪ̃ (man), Proto-Yoruboid *ó-kó (penis). Compare with the widespread use of /b/ in roots for female, perhaps these are local Yoruboid innovations coming from roots or verbs relating to male and female characteristics. See Proto-Igboid *ɔ́-kɛ́ɲɛ
