проблема#Russian[edit]

I've always wondered why Russian turned this word into the feminine gender. I thought they inherited it from French, where it is masculine. But here the etymology section suggests it's borrowed directly from Latin, where it is neuter gender. So I understand the -а makes it seem feminine, but at the time the Russian speakers borrowed the term from Latin, they must have known it was neuter and Russian itself has neuter gender too. So why the change to feminine? (Unless this happened only later, of course - but still). 2001:1C02:1990:A900:C814:2891:8241:3741 06:54, 15 February 2024 (UTC)Reply
