Rfv-sense Does the "people who are separated from their family" sense apply in Min Nan or Cantonese? If not, should this be labelled as "Mandarin"? [1][2] --Geographyinitiative (talk) 00:44, 20 July 2020 (UTC)
- The definition seems to be a little too specific. Most Mandarin dictionaries define it as 單獨一個人 or something like that, which would be "(someone who is) alone". 现代汉语规范词典 says it's a noun, but 现代汉语词典 says it's an adverb. To me, it is more an adverb than a noun. Its use in 史記 (per 教育部重編國語辭典修訂本) and other ancient texts (per 漢語大詞典) suggests that it's used in literary Chinese, which could be read in any modern variety of Chinese.
