Is the term "Figur" really so common for a drawing or representation conveying information? I would say "Abbildung" is much more common if not even the only word for this understanding of "figure". --80.217.14.38 09:08, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

I agree its not common to use the full word Figur in spoken language for this, for a drawing conveying information you could (also) use Diagramm. But, in written text you can see abbreviations like "Fig. 1" when referring to numbered drawings or illustrations in a document. I guess this is from Latin figura, like Italian figura for illustration. Btw, Illustration is also German. Mutante 09:20, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
