I agree it is now redundant. The formulation of the current sense 1 was introduced later than the current sense 2, creating a bogus distinction. In my understanding of the term attendance, being in the audience of an event implies that one is in attendance at the event, so I think the definition can be simplified to “Someone who is in attendance at an event.”  --Lambiam 10:52, 16 December 2021 (UTC)Reply
