"A person who begs" doesn't seem quite adequate as a definition. Someone who publicly begs for money etc. is a beggar, but someone who begs for forgiveness, clemency, the last cookie in the jar, etc. is not. Equinox ◑ 14:06, 11 December 2016 (UTC)
beggar and bugger[edit]
play silly beggars is a euphemism for play silly buggers; so should we split the beggar etymology for the sense of a wretch? Equinox ◑ 15:33, 29 March 2020 (UTC)
