I think there are two words, with different meanings, pronunciations, and etymologies. The sense "mourning" is from "dolor" and was pronounced in Proto-Romance with open o, hence deuil and duelo. The sense "deceit" is from Greek el:δόλος and was pronounced with closed o, hence dol and dolo. PierreAbbat (talk) 02:50, 22 July 2012 (UTC)Reply
