@Vivaelcelta proposed environmentalist as a synonym for ecologist and then interjected concepts as additional senses for the term. An ecologist, someone who practices ecology - the scientific study of organisms in their environments, is a scientist and researcher. Ecologist is a profession separate from a political position such as environmentalist. A given person who practices ecology as a profession may also believe in and practice environmentalism in another capacity, but we cannot equate the two concepts. There are further senses that the term could have such as the label for a professional title or job position. Establishing synonymy with environmentalist and then conferring the sense of an ecologist being a political activist is a completely incorrect characterization, however, and this should be removed from the characterization. I've added some cites. Perhaps this sense is from deep ecology, social ecology etc. which are more related to environmentalism. – Jberkel 19:01, 12 September 2022 (UTC)Reply
