Use other than for horses?

[edit]

I've just added a quote to Citations:foal. It's pretty clear from the quote, and very clear from the context of the rest of the book, that it's using the word "foal" for a young child who has been born into slavery. This usage doesn't seem to be covered by our current senses, but I'm not sure if it exists outside of Toni Morrison's work. A bit of searching on Google Books didn't turn up any other quotes where a "foal" is anything but a young horse or closely related animal. —Granger (talk · contribs) 16:29, 24 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
