The etymology doesn't seem correct. The correct etymology might be:

sûr + rond (rondir)

No, the etymology is correct. When the word was adopted into English, the French were not yet writing sûr. The two parts were put together already in Latin long before it reached English. —Stephen 20:47, 10 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
