From Proto-Nuristani *pāršã́ta (“place of the rock”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *parš-, from Proto-Indo-European *pels-.[1] Likely cognate with Ashkun paṣú (“mountainslope, side”), Kamkata-viri paṣǘ, paṣí (“mountainslope, side”), Sanskrit पाषाण (pāṣāṇa), पाषी (pāṣī), Pashto پرښه (parša), Ancient Greek πέλλα (pélla, “stone”).
