From Andes +‎ -ine, after its type locality in the Andes of Colombia.

  1. (mineralogy) Sodium calcium aluminum silicate, (), a plagioclase feldspar, the third member of the albite-anorthite solid solution series. Found in fine-grained andesite lavas; crystals are rarely seen.
