Inherited from Proto-Slavic *brьdnǫti,[1] from Proto-Balto-Slavic *bird-,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *bʰrdʰ-.[1] Cognates include Czech břednout (“to melt”),[1] Lithuanian brìsti,[1][2] Albanian bredh (“to wander”).[3]
