Hungarian[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From German Gen, from English gene, from Ancient Greek γενεά (geneá, “generation, descent”), from γεννάω (gennáō, “to beget”). Coined by the Danish botanist Wilhelm Ludvig Johannsen in 1909.[1]
