[edit]From ġe- + mang (Proto-Germanic *mang-, from Proto-Indo-European *menk- (“knead”)). Cognate with Old Saxon gimang. The Indo-European root is also the source of Proto-Slavic *mǭkà (“flour”) (Old Church Slavonic мѫка (mǫka), Russian мука́ (muká)), Proto-Baltic *minki- (Lithuanian minkiti).
