From glottide, from New Latin glottis, from Ancient Greek γλωττίς (glōttís), derived from γλῶττα (glôtta), variant of γλῶσσα (glôssa, tongue). By surface analysis, glottid(e) (glottis) +‎ -ale (-al, adjectival derivational suffix).
