Dutch[edit]
Etymology[edit]
Blend of gras (“grass”) + asfalt (“asphalt”); so named because these fields harbor so little biodiversity they might as well be paved with asphalt.
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
grasfalt n (uncountable)
- (ecology) Grass (particularly ray grass, Lolium perenne) as monoculture; pastures where only grass grows and which harm the biodiversity of an area.
