Etymology[edit]

From prefix hydro-, from Ancient Greek ὕδωρ (húdōr, water). Canadian sense "electricity" from the fact that hydroelectricity is the prevalent source of electricity in much of Canada and many electric companies have the word "Hydro" in their names.
