From Ancient Greek ῐ̓δῐοσῠγκρᾱσῐ́ᾱ (idiosunkrāsíā, peculiar habit or temperament), from ῐ̓́δῐος (ídios, peculiar) + σῠν- (sun-, with) + κρᾶσῐς (krâsis, mixture) + -ία (-ía). Compare French idiosyncrasie, Spanish and Italian idiosincrasia, Polish idiosynkrazja, Russian идиосинкрази́я (idiosinkrazíja), Yiddish אידיאָסינקראַסי (idyosinkrasi).
