Pipil[edit]
Etymology[edit]
From Proto-Nahuan *-(ɨ)kpa-k. Compare Classical Nahuatl icpac (“on top”).
Pronunciation[edit]
Noun[edit]
-ijpak
- on, over, above, on top
- Ne siwat kiwika ne tzutzukul ijpak ne itzuntekun
- The woman carries the jug on her head
Usage notes[edit]
- The i at the beginning of relational noun -ijpak only appears in the third-person plural, otherwise rendering it as -jpak.
- It is also part of a restricted group of relationals that can be used without a possessive marker when it accompanies an explicit complement, taking the form pak and acting like a preposition:
- ...pak ne itzuntekun
- ...on her/his head
