From Proto-Tai *ʔiːmᴮ (satiated). Cognate with Thai อิ่ม (ìm), Lao ອິ່ມ (ʼim) or ອີ່ມ (ʼīm), ᦀᦲᧄᧈ (˙ʼiim¹), Shan ဢိမ် (ʼǐm), Ahom 𑜒𑜢𑜉𑜫 (ʼim).
