English[edit]
Etymology[edit]
German Indig(o) (“indigo”) + -ane by unwinding the etymology of indium in order to avoid a conflict with the hydrocarbon already called "indane".
Noun[edit]
indigane (uncountable)
- (inorganic chemistry) indium hydride, InH3
Usage notes[edit]
- This is the IUPAC name; as noted in the etymology section, systematic application of the name rules would yield "indane", but that name already had a historical meaning.
