Mentioned in the Catholicon (Middle Breton crech), from Proto-Brythonic *krɨx, from Proto-Celtic *krikso- (“curly”) (compare Cornish crygh (“curly”), Welsh crych (“curly”), Gaulish crixsos (“curly, crispy”)), from Proto-Indo-European *kripso- (compare Latin crispus).
