From Old Galician-Portuguese mais frio ca neve ("colder than snow", 13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria).

- the farmer, who was joyfully thinking that he had a treasure, was left cold as ice [lit: colder than snow] when he saw the priest as he came and the later asked for the bushel for the annual offering
