From madrasah +‎ ibtidaiah, from Arabic اَلْمَدْرَسَة اَلاِبْتِدَائِيَّة (al-madrasa(t) al-ibtidāʔiyya) as اِبْتِدَائِيَّة (ibtidāʔiyya, primary, elementary) +‎ مَدْرَسَة (madrasa).
