From Proto-Nuristani *napāká, *napākká (whence Ashkun nëvā́, Kamkata-viri navó, nëvók, Waigali nëvã), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *napātkás, diminutive of *nápāts (whence Sanskrit स्वसृ (nápāt), Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬞𐬁𐬝 (napāt̰), Persian نوه (nave)), from Proto-Indo-European *népōts (whence Ancient Greek ἀνεψιός (anepsiós, “first cousin”), Latin nepōs, Old Church Slavonic нетии (netii), English neve).
