Inherited from Old Catalan obertura, from Vulgar Latin *opertūra (compare Occitan obertura~dobertura, French ouverture), alteration of Latin apertūra (compare Spanish abertura). By surface analysis, obert +‎ -ura. Doublet of the borrowed form apertura. The sense of "aperture" was a later learned development or borrowing.
